The route leads around Štrbské Pleso, one of the largest and most beautiful mountain lakes in Slovakia, and is ideal for families with children, recreational tourists and all nature lovers.

The Štrbské pleso nature trail is a unique experience for everyone who wants not only to admire the beauty of the High Tatras, but also to get to know the rich history, natural wealth and cultural heritage of this area. This 6-kilometre trail, which consists of 40 thematic stops, provides a comprehensive view of various aspects of Štrbské Pleso, from its geological development to the stories of famous personalities who have worked here. 

The route starts at the Tatra Electric Railways station and continues towards the ski resort under the bridges near the FIS Hotel. From there it goes around Štrbské Pleso, passes through the hotel complex on the south bank of the lake on Kúpeľná Street, then goes around Nové Štrbské Pleso and ends at the Lakes of Love.

Time-consuming and accessible

It takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to walk the entire trail, making it ideal for a morning or afternoon stroll. The trail is easy, with minimal elevation changes, making it comfortable for families with children or the elderly. Due to its year-round accessibility, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the Tatra Mountains at any time of the year.

Stops on the nature trail

Each of the 40 stops on this trail is designed to offer a deeper insight into a particular aspect of the area. The information boards that are placed along the entire route offer not only textual information, but often also illustrations, historical photographs and maps that help to better understand what makes Štrbské Pleso so special.

History of Štrbské Pleso - The first stops are dedicated to the origin and history of Štrbské Pleso. You will learn about how the lake was formed after the glacier retreat and what importance it had for the local inhabitants in the past. You will also find information about the first tourists who came here in the 19th century.

Flora and fauna - Other stops focus on the unique plant and animal species that inhabit the surroundings of Štrbské Pleso. Here you can learn about rare alpine flowers such as the Alpine Pansy, or about the various species of birds that nest around the lake.

Sports events and personalities - The trail will also take you through places connected with the sporting history of the Tatras, including stops that commemorate important skiing events and personalities who trained or competed here.
